Who You Are Again

Where you are in Europe and the Middle East
Six months ago – (here) – we showed you something of what we know about who you are, or at least, where you are.
Against the odds, this site continues to attract new readers. We doubted there was any great universal hunger for details of Italian current affairs, and that’s probably true. What we didn’t take fully into account is that there is however at least some level of interest just about everywhere. Though why there are so many of you in Illinois is a major puzzle…
At any rate, the single greatest lump of visitors is from Italy, which is certainly not a surprise. With respect to the last time we looked at this, when the two were essentially tied for second place, the United States has now pulled clearly ahead of Japan – though that nation is still a very strong third. For whatever reason, eighty percent of you are in one of these three countries.
Another trend we already identified six months ago has, if anything strengthened. That is the astonishing degree of curiosity about modern Italy coming from Islamic countries. As you’ll see below, visitors from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt and Singapore are all more numerous than those from France. And there are considerably more readers in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Syria, Indonesia, Qatar, Turkey and even the Sudan than there are in Switzerland.
Our theory about this is unchanged; we think it shows Islam is as worried about the West as the West is about Islam.
Here then is how it looks for the top twenty:
- Italy
- United States
- Japan
- United Kingdom
- Germany
- Saudi Arabia
- Islamic Republic of Iran
- Egypt
- Singapore
- France
- Canada
- Australia
- Kuwait
- Netherlands
- United Arab Emirates
- India
- Syrian Arab Republic
- Sweden
- Indonesia
- Qatar
As in so many other things, the most rapid growth in visitors to “Upper Italy” appears to be coming from China, which has now reached 23rd place. All in all, readers from 65 countries come to share our prejudices about Italian affairs, a flattering result. Thank you very much.
