Sarko Cops a Feel

Nice, ah, work, Miss, ah…

We can think of lots of good explanations for this recent photo of France’s new president, Nicolas Sarkozy, having a good time pinning on a medal and making a navigatrice – a lady sailor – a Chevalier de l’ordre national du Mérite of the Republic of France: granting her a kind of knighthood, that is. No doubt it is all a question of camera angles, of the well-known “foreshortening” effect caused by telephoto lenses and whatnot.

“Sarko” is probably well distant, mètres out in front of the young lady, around whom his other arm is obviously wrapped and who by the way is named Maud Fontenoy. But it doesn’t look like it. It looks like he has his hand on her tit. And it looks like he is fully aware of this…

Aside from showing why it is much more fun to be President of France than of the United States, we consider it worthy of note that the French press by and large carried this snap without any particular comment. They did splash the image around, they just didn’t seem to have anything to say about it in the captions…

Since most of what “Upper Italy” knows can be summed up in 1960’s song lyrics, we would like here to remember the expression: “Different strokes for different folks.”
